Amazon.com Review

Banish the chills this winter with the energy-efficient Safe Heat Oil-Filled Radiator from industry leader, DeLonghi. Solo, the quiet radiator serves as an alternative heat source in small and medium rooms. The 110-volt radiator also complements a central heating system, bringing warmth to high-use areas while the main system runs on low for more cost-effective heating.

The radiator construction features rustproof metal for even heat distribution and resilience with pure diathermic oil completely sealed inside. Heat radiates through several vertical thermal tunnels while keeping the hot elements enclosed and out of the reach of fingers and other body parts and objects. Three power settings allow flexibility for diverse rooms and personal heating needs. For energy efficiency, the heater runs low at 600 watts or medium at 900 watts to slowly spread warmth. On high at 1500 watts, the radiator brings full heat to the room with extra speed. Users direct the room's temperature for comfort with an adjustable thermostat. With a 24-hour programmable timer, the heater offers 96 options in terms of temperature, wattage, duration, and activation time. An antifreeze function engages should the indoor temperature fall below 44 degrees F, while the heater also automatically shuts off upon knock-over or overheating. Four wheels enable easy transportation from one room to another. The power cord wraps around for storage. DeLonghi advises against placing the radiator too close to power outlet, outdoors, or near flammables. Avoid running the power line under carpets. Thorough safety guidelines and assembly instructions are included. The radiator weighs 23 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

5.0 out of 5 stars The best electric space heater I have ever used !, February 24, 2006
By

This review is from: Delonghi TRD0715T Safe Heat Oil-Filled Radiator (Kitchen)
I have tried the quartz and ceramic heaters which often require a small fan to circulate air past the elements to heat the air. I have also been in homes that use natural gas for gravity heat, central air, built in electric ceiling heat, and a natural gas wall heater. Most of the gas or electric element heaters that I mentioned tend to dry out and remove some of the oxygen from the air which can cause that uncomfortable "soar throat and headache" feeling. These DeLonghi oil-filled radiators don't seem to negatively effect the air since they use clean electricity and simply heat up the air through efficient convection and radiation. This model TRD0715T has side metal tubing that creates more of a vacuum effect which seems to make the hot air blow out of the top of the unit without the use of a fan. DeLonghi rightfully nicknames this as a "Dragon model" since has the effect of a forced air heater without the noise or extra electricity requirements. On low 700W, medium 900W, or high... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Some actual performance measurements, December 2, 2006
This review is from: Delonghi TRD0715T Safe Heat Oil-Filled Radiator (Kitchen)
Just bought this, still deciding whether to keep it. Ran a little experiment, thought it might give folks an idea of what to expect.

Room size: 154SF (11x14)
Finished, unheated basement room, with one insulated external wall, the rest uninsulated interior walls. No windows, door closed.

Outside temp: 15F

Put heater in center of room
Put thermometer on a desk 6 feet away
Started at 10:20AM with a cold heater set on high, measured for 5 hours

10:20AM 49.6F
11:20AM 55.9F
12:20PM 59.9F
01:20PM 62.6F
02:20PM 64.4F
03:20PM 65.8F

So roughly 2 hours to raise the temp 10F, 4 hours to raise the temp 15F

Unfortunately, I suspect that none of the competing electric heaters would do significantly better, since they're all limited to 1500W. Since I'm reluctant to try a fuel-burning heater in an unventilated space, I may stick with this Delonghi and call it good enough... Read more

I've had an old Delonghi oil-filled space heater for 15 years or more. It had a recall on the control panel. The last few years it has been leaking oil on high setting. So I searched and decided on the newest version of the old Delonghi.

This is a good product with easy control and a clever timer feature (took me a while to figure out, though - NOT obvious, and I'm reasonably bright and handy!).

Only complaint, and it is fairly serious: when new, it stinks when run on high setting, which is only 1500 watts, after all.

There was a paper in the packing that said to expect some off-gassing at first. Well, I've run the thing for 5 days on high heat and it still smells toxic when running on high heat. The paint finish gives off some sort of fumes for days and days. I still cannot stand to run it on the high setting indoors at all. It really smells bad - like curing oil-based paint.

It really stinks! I've been running it in the basement... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cheap heater, December 23, 2009

This review is from: Comfort Zone CZHTV9 Flat Panel Halogen Heater (Kitchen)
Living in a 1920's house has it's drawbacks. One of them being icy breezes when its below zero outside. I have modern central heat but why heat up the whole town? I did already have a sappy 1500w convection heater but all it did was warm one side of my ankle while drying out my eyes with it's noisy fan. So I shopped around for an infared heater. I choose this one because it a) oscillates, b) is silent, c) is 2 feet tall. I needed something that would go under my computer desk and keep my whole side warm, not just my ankles. I admit this does the job nicely. Crank it to 800w to heat up the surroundings (about a half hour) then turn it down to 400w for the rest of the night. I had it a few nights now with temps outside dipping into the low 30's.

Pros:
- It's like an electric fireplace. Toasty!
- It's cheap to buy and run.
- It is totally silent.
- It is tall, and with the oscillation going it will heat you from head to toe without burning you... Read more

We have had Halogen heaters before and like the heat they put out. This one does a nice job, burt we have recently noticed that if it stays on for long periods of time there must be a overheat switch on it, because it will cut itself off. We wait a little bit of time, unplug it, then plug it back in, and it goes again just like normal. Overall we like it.

I bought this heater because it is energy efficient with two heating levels of 400 watts and 800 watts--significantly lower than most space heaters. I bought it to replace an older 1500 watt space heater that I used in my sunroom in December which significantly raised my monthly electric bill and I mean 4 times higher (I have gas heat). I am hoping my January electric bill will return to a much lower level with the use of this comfort zone flat panel halogen heater. I will need to wait until the bill arrives to see if this will be the case. There is no blower on this heater altho it does radiate heat to the immediate area. It does not heat up the entire room and this room is the size of a small bedroom but it does heat the space around me enough to use the sunroom for eating breakfast, lunch or reading. The unit shuts off if it is moved even slightly--a good safety feature. It does have two very bright heating elements which my pets do not like and therefore they keep their... Read more

I purchased this heater to warm my office at school...the nuns won't turn on the radiators until you can see your breath...inside the building! I have 13 foot ceilings in this office and it keeps it toasty. I've been very pleased with it's performance, especially since I paid only $9.95 for it! The fan feature comes in handy, as there is, of course, no air conditioning at school either! Great value, great product.

These portable electric heaters are small in size but have given off ample heat when needed in a pinch in those early morning hours when trying to get kids out the door for school.

Since I was already familiar with the model HFH 104, that I sold over the summer on eBay, I figured the model HFH 105 would be similar. They both have the two heat settings of 1000 and 1500 watts and the power light plus a fan only setting. Also included in both models are the auto safety shut-off and the cord wrap.

The carry handle and cord wrap are easier to utilize in this model of the Holmes Portable Electric Heater, HFH 105. It is advised not to use an extension cord unless you absolutely have to, and with limited electrical outlets in the duplex we reside in I have to use extension cords through out the house. I have only utilized these heaters in the living room and for limited time in the morning and evening hours.

This is a compact design, but it resembles a... Read more
